My paternal grandparents both smoked heavily and died horrible, agonizing deaths from lung cancer and emphysema.
My maternal grandparents quit smoking early, and lived into their nineties, and died of causes unrelated to smoking.
Neither of my parents smoked.
My dad died of pancreatic cancer.
My mother is alive and kicking at 78.

Yeah, because the adults who did get addicted to smoking regularly are dying.
