The fact that more people voted in the Republican primary than the Democratic primary in a Senate district that was previously held by a Republican isn't that surprising, especially when you consider that the Republican primary was hotly contested between two candidates (separated by around 250 votes), while the Democratic primary was basically no contest, with the winning candidate getting nearly 59 percent of the vote and topping her nearest competitor by over 1700 votes (and besting the third candidate in the race by more than 2500 votes).
