In reply to the discussion: Portland protests: Trump weighs in on Saturday demonstrations (live updates) [View all]PandoraAwakened
(905 posts)I watched about two hours of a live camera feed that was embedded with the white nationalist neo-Nazis in Portland today (I know, why would anyone torture themselves that way, but I do paid research on these goons, so hazard of the business).
As they were milling around in the park, leadership clearly had no plan for what they were actually going to do; they didn't even have a speaker agenda. It appeared most of the followers just assumed they were there to bash some heads.
Overall, they seemed to be gobsmacked by their leaders shouting out that today needed to be different, that today they couldn't engage in violence. There was a bit of confusion as to what exactly then they were expected to do if not punch faces.
Right about that point, the crowd got all excited because they were being instructed by police to begin marching along a very defined route. "Woohoo," they cried, exclaiming how the police were on their side because they were going to be given a personal escort through the din of the much greater crowd of Portland citizens shouting, "Fascists go home!"
So, off they marched---to a sidewalk with the silent river at their left and the drone of traffic from a major highway at their right. In other words, completely isolated, no one to shout at. Trudging along, only accompanied by their own hate bros, they became decidedly more muted.
But then, wait! They were being led to a bridge that had previously been closed. Hopes began to rise. Cheering ensued.
Oooh, that Anti-fa was sure going to be mad now because the fascists were going to get to walk across a bridge---another isolated place where Portlanders didn't have to see or hear them. Oh boy, they said, that was sure going to piss people off!
So, off they trudged across the bridge of shame---only to discover at its end that they were being deposited right back where they started---away from the mass of Portland citizens who had
turned out to decry them.
The looks on the fascist leaders' faces were priceless as they tried to spin the whole thing to their followers as "Mission accomplished, guys! Let's go have a BBQ and drink some beer to celebrate! Time to party!"
Of course, the fact that these same "leaders" then proceeded to walk around in circles asking each other what the plan was for transportation out of there clearly indicated that the supposed party would also be a bust.
