You never know about taxes. Texans might be promised a lot of stuff...
-- the benefits of lower taxes over current ones,
-- the benefits of their own pension plans instead of SS and Medicaid,
-- the state's ability to negotiate oil and agriculture exports for water,
-- better care for its citizens better than big gov,
and Texans might just go all in to sacrifice current benefits for positives like passports, foreign trade, their own immigration laws, unorganized militia and corporate militia protections, etc.
I'd doubt they or the U.S. would trust each other as allies, so there'd likely be no trade or mutual defense treaties.
But imagine if, after a big disaster, Mexico proceeded to invade with its military and cartel paramilitaries.
Then what.
