(6,395 posts)My father (RIP), was a CO. He worked at a hospital domestically to fulfill his draft duty. He loved the job and enjoyed the opportunity to help others. So after the war, he tossed his draft card, bad mistake. So sometime later he takes a trip with all of us in the family to Canada (this was before Carter's blanket pardon). As we made our way back, he gets detained as a possible draft dodger.
Long story short, there were some "aggressive" young border patrol agents and it looked like my father would be arrested. However, there was one older agent and my mother said, "did you bother to look at his DMV record?". So he went and looked it up.
He came back after that and told the younger agents "you better release him, he has a very long list of speeding tickets in California during the war".
So screening, can be a bit of a bias. I know most would like to think and believe in a blind justice, but, sadly, personal prejudices can often circumvent that. And I've also experienced that personally as well. Many like to shoot first and ask questions later.
