I don't think many people would fault Russia for going after the Islamic State after this. Russia's military is kind of bogged down in Ukraine at the moment though.

The Islamic State's biggest base of power at the moment is in Afghanistan, where they are complicating the Taliban's efforts to govern the country in some areas. Even if Russia weren't tied up in Ukraine, seeing Russia operate in Afghanistan and/or cooperate with the Taliban would also be ironic given the Soviet Union's invasion in the 1980s.
