The NSDAP (Nazi Party) won pluralities in the German Federal elections of 1932 (July and November). They got a little over 37% of the total vote in July and somewhat less in November. Eventually Hitler succeeded in attracting the support of enough minor parties to form a government, and the rest is history.

As to what the Egyptian army's "goal" might have been in staging a military coup, we clearly hold very different opinions. Actions do speak louder than words, and their actions so far have been far more akin to a dictatorship than a democratic republic. One simply does not found a democracy by staging a military coup over a democratically elected government, and then brutally suppressing one's opposition.
Time will ultimately settle the question of what the generals have in mind. On that we can, I'm sure, both agree.
