In reply to the discussion: Can Internet Trolls Take Down Obamacare? (Tea Party Launches Attack On Healthcare.gov Live Chat) [View all]freshwest
(53,661 posts)27. Tea Trolls have disrupted PBOs efforts to have open dialogue for years in real life, as well as
in online town halls using twitter, youtube and other attempts at getting real time conversations and input from people since 2009.
It was a major part of his transparency pledge to get input to make policy, just like a town hall, and they refused to allow dialogue. They spammed the talks, and people trying to get information left. Since people only have a limited amount of time for these events and get tired of dumpster diving to find a pearl that may or may not exist.
In mass discussions, there is a need for moderators but they get labeled shills, gatekeepers, bots, etc. It's really hard to have meaningful discussion with trolls about.
This is not new, it's another way to waste money, time and intellectual energy to confuse the voters. People looking for information get the feeling the information is poisoned and lose interest.
The White House has tried to adjust to keep the events productive, but get smeared with charges that Obama is weak, doesn't care enough about his agenda to push it. Anyone who has listened to what this man says daily in every venue available knows better. Since the media is so biased that it has been caught airing heavily edited videos of his words, refusing to discuss the people he represents, it's very restricted.
Okay, that is a partial list of warnings to the perception this may result in. The baggers do look at it as a game to see who can be the most offensive and disruptive. They have no respect for discussion, they've proven this time and again, but will the word get out to people who need to know, how bad the opposition techniques are?
The idea of improving the talk with thoughtful, well-informed questions will be a great help. I still see an uphill battle as the ACA is very complex and not amenable to simple slogans and absolutist statements.
Thanks for letting us know just how low the baggers have sunk. I'll look forward to seeing DUer reports on their input in this event.

I'm hoping if some people have good experiences and share them people will ignore the lies.

It's more important that people get healthcare than he gets credit for doing what is right
