4. Dixiecratic Republican Party

One thing I hope people never ever forget... Those in charge of the Republican Party now are the result of the Solid South/Dixiecrats changing parties. These people we are in a pitched battle against are the Southern Democrats your grandparents knew. And to understand the hatred we fight, everyone has to remember, they left the Democratic Party because LBJ sided against them by passing the Civil and Voting Rights Act.

The Party started to shift with the 1948 walkout from the DNC. Heck, in 1972, the Republican Platform had as one of its goals to find a way to outlaw the Saturday Night Special. That soon changed once the hardliners took over the NRA during the 1977 convention. Those that had not moved to the GOP were further tempted in 1979 by the Southern Strategy and Lee Atwater's cunning tactics. Jimmy Carter's grandson found the interview tape from a 1981 interview with Atwater.

Some good reads that helped me understand:

And to see how the Republican Party has changed, read Ike's 1956 Platform: http://bit.ly/2R5VU8E

What I do wish is we could deliver some heavy-hitting ads to counter what they are doing. We use to have the upper hand and now it feels like their think-tanks' plans have grabbed the necessary offices and branches to cut us off. Keep in mind that one group, ALEC, has a document for State Legislatures that explains what a modern Constitutional Convention might look like just to get them to sign on. It's called Article V and they have a "howto" document.

To say I'm nervous is an understatement.
