9. People/Americans Not Paying Attention

Is the point of this video to say that Americans are not paying attention to what is going on in Syria and around the world? Are they trying to say that in order to get a certain segment of the population to pay attention to world events people have to be told they are about to be given information about a celebrity or see a celebrity in a compromising position?
