Update on the flood in my basement... [View all]

We had a busted hot water heater. ATT: This is important! A hot water heater is not immortal. It must be changed once every 10 years. Ours was 19 years old! A plumber told me this.

The insurance adjuster was here yesterday evening. He took a great deal of time, sketching the layout of our 2 room basement and listing every piece of damaged material.

The good news is that the basement we would have had to deal with at some point will now be dealt with. I worried about this because my husband is a pack rat: he has nearly saved every piece of paper in the 30-something years we have been in the house. Now it will be gone as part of the damage clean up. My dread has been lifted, hallelluja!

We will have to replace our washer and dryer, more than likely. We'll find out today and tomorrow as the crew is coming here in a few minutes! So...

I will be able to take a shower at long last!
