In reply to the discussion: Remember vicks vapor rub and mercurochrome that was the go to in youth [View all]3catwoman3
(23,980 posts)27. When we sold my mom's house last year, there was a lot of "stuff" to go...
thru. In a cedar chest in the finished basement, I found a bottle of paregoric that must be decades old - may have belonged to my late grandmother. There was one other medication in there with her name on it. She died in 1982.
The bottle isnt brown, but the liquid inside is - very clear, with a tiny bit of sediment.
The label is pretty interesting:
ANHYDROUS MORPHINE .035 TO .045 GM IN 100 CC ALCOHOL. 43 TO 46% BY VOLUME.
WARNING - May be habit forming.
DOSE - Infants, 3 days 1 drop; 1 week, 2 drops; 1 month; 3 drops; 1 yr; 6 drops; 5 yr; 20 drops. Adults a teaspoonful.
Ive kept it as an interesting bit of pharmaceutical history.

Really! Bactine was a miracle cure back then. Plus, that orange stain went everywhere.
