27. When we sold my mom's house last year, there was a lot of "stuff" to go...

…thru. In a cedar chest in the finished basement, I found a bottle of paregoric that must be decades old - may have belonged to my late grandmother. There was one other medication in there with her name on it. She died in 1982.

The bottle isn’t brown, but the liquid inside is - very clear, with a tiny bit of sediment.

The label is pretty interesting:

ANHYDROUS MORPHINE .035 TO .045 GM IN 100 CC ALCOHOL. 43 TO 46% BY VOLUME.

WARNING - May be habit forming.

DOSE - Infants, 3 days 1 drop; 1 week, 2 drops; 1 month; 3 drops; 1 yr; 6 drops; 5 yr; 20 drops. Adults a teaspoonful.

I’ve kept it as an interesting bit of pharmaceutical history.
