I would literally have absolutely no idea how to prepare for one.

I experienced one VERY mild quake back in the 80s. Once in a blue moon, the New Madrid fault down in Missouri shakes its bootie hard enough that we can feel it in parts of Illinois. We were living a lot farther south at the time than we are now, so we were close enough to feel some minor tremors. By the time we figured out what was happening, It was over.

There was one in the early 70s, when I was in college, but I slept through that one.
