They brought a rock energy to traditional Irish music. I used to tape the NPR syndicated show "Thistle & Shamrock" pretty religiously. They played a lot of progressive Celtic folk music.
I like some early U2, The Virgin Prunes and Gavin Friday, and Thin Lizzy. Oh, and MY BLOODY VALENTINE took up a huge chunk of my youth.
