I've been doing something similar, but a lot less elaborate. My new RF 100-500mm lens has a minimum focusing distsnce of 3.9 feet at 500mm. My R5 has 45 mp, which allows for excellent cropped images. I can get a pretty decent image filling about 25% of the frame and blow it up from there. It makes my zoom a defacto macro lens.
