Michigan lawmaker arraigned on felony charges [View all]

LANSING, MI -- Rep. Brian Banks was arraigned Thursday on felony charges related to allegedly falsifying financial documents in Wayne County, according to information released by Attorney General Bill Schuette's office.

The Harper Woods Democrat has already been convicted of eight financially-related felonies, and voters elected him to the House despite that record in 2012 and 2014. But three new charges from Schuette's office date back to 2010 and could land him life in prison because he's being charged as a habitual offender.

The state now alleges Banks, a Harper Woods Democrat, took out a $3,000 loan from a Detroit area bank using falsified documents. The court documents claim Bank submitted pay statements and a human resources letter from a company he did not work for to secure the loan.

Court documents show he is charged with two counts of Uttering and Publishing, one count of False Pretenses - $1,000 00 or More But Less Than $20,000 and one count of False Statements - Financial Condition.
