3. Albuquerque police investigate first homicide of 2020

Jan 2020

It’s a new year, but Albuquerque is already facing the same issues with violent crime. Candy Cubitt said she woke up to gunfire around 2 a.m. “All of the sudden I just heard a bunch of gunshots, I don’t know five or six of them,” she said.

Police said they responded to a house behind Cubitt’s for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man dead outside. Soon after, police found out another victim was shot and taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

A neighbor told KOB 4 there was a birthday party at the home where the victim was found. They said they heard fighting and someone yelled, “just shoot me.” Then they heard two rounds of gunfire and silence.

Police said they detained several people who were at the home, but haven’t said if anyone has been charged.
