Pennsylvania public employees convicted of sex crimes could lose pensions [View all]
Legislation that would cost public officials and public employees their pension if they are convicted of committing a sexual offense involving a victim with whom they have a connection through their office or employment passed the state House of Representatives on Monday.
By a vote of 198-0, the House sent the bill to the state Senate for consideration.
State law currently limits pension forfeiture as it relates to sexual offenses including rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault to school employees who commit a sexual offense against a student.
This bill, sponsored by Rep. Wendi Thomas, R-Bucks County, widens that to make it apply to any public official or employee.
