Appointing Porter to the Sen. from CA in 2021 Appointing Gillibrand to the Sen from NY in 2009. [View all]

Gillibrand was appointed to the US Senate from NY in 2009 when Hillary Clinton left to become Obama's Secretary of State. Prior to becoming US Senator, Gillibrand was a US House member from a Republican leaning swing US House District from Upstate NY.
If Porter gets appointed to the CA US Senate seat vacated by VP elect Kamala Harris, She will be in similar situation as Gillibrand of NY was in 2009. Porter represents a Republican leaning US House District from Downstate CA.
