Chronic coughing when laying down [View all]

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by mopinko (a host of the Health group).

I have had this problem after a cold...propping myself up on pillows is fine, but to really stop the coughing, spit all mucus out into a tissue...I used to think it was just a myth, but after I spit all mucus out, my coughs cut down to almost zero.

I think there is just a cup or two of mucus that causes all the coughing, which regurgitates up into the esophagus, and if you (we) can get rid of it, the cough has nothing to catch on to.

I ain't a doc...just one who has experienced it.
