27. We lose a piece of our heart when we lose a pet

In 2015 we lost all 4 of our cats. Samantha was elderly, not really a surprise but we still miss her. Then Jake, our grandcat who we took in when he couldn't adjust to the new baby at my daughter's house, was found dead by DH. He was just starting to settle down here. Probably a congenital heart defect, he was only 5. 2 months later our son found Riley - same thing, no symptoms, only 4. Leaving us with our beloved oversized orange tabby, Freddie, my DU alias. Freddie missed his pals and we were going to find a kitten for him after the holidays.
Then Freddie got sick with FHP - a horrible fatal virus - and we lost him right before Christmas. He was only 10. A sad Christmas indeed without our fur family.
We have our boys Charlie and Andy now but we still miss all the ones we lost.
