Another damn Rainbow Bridge crossing. [View all]

We had to say a totally unexpected goodbye to the oldest of our 4 cats this afternoon - our 13 yr old lynx point Siamese, Mocha. We had gone out to do some campaign office work for a woman we are supporting in the democratic primary. We were gone about 4 hours. We got home about 2 PM to find her pretty much in extremis - breathing really hard, drooling, and unable to stand for more than a moment or two. I took her right over to the vet, who is less than 2 miles away. While I was driving her there, she flopped over in the travel cage, and her pupils dilated, so I knew it was grim. The vet was not sure what had happened, but her lungs sounded terrible, her respirations were agonal, and her pupils stayed dilated, so we agreed to liberate her spirit.

She seemed fine this morning - ate her breakfast, and was drinking from a new cat fountain we got a few weeks ago, right before we left the house. So, obviously, something catastrophic happened. I don't think it would have made a difference if we had been home. At least, I hope not.

I'm sure going to miss her big blue eyes, her little tiny face, and her stripey legs. She was a little bitty thing - not quite 6 pounds.

Just yesterday, I posted regarding the 40th "anniversary' (there should be a better word) of the death of my younger brother and only sibling. I was not expecting to have to deal with this today.
