... According to a press release from the Jennings County Sheriff's Office, 62-year-old James "Darrell" Sowder, of Seymour, is currently being held in the Jennings County Jail on murder and attempted murder charges. Officials say more charges are anticipated as the investigation is completed.
Major Jerry Shepard, with the Jennings County Sheriff's Office, says deputies responded to 1965 Chatsworth Lane on a 911 call for help at 8:52 p.m. When officers arrived in the area, they were met by several witnesses who told them that Sowder had allegedly shot two women in the head and that he was still in the area. Officers were talking with the witnesses when a vehicle turned onto the road they were sitting on and started driving towards their patrol cars in an attempt to leave the area. Sgt. Jeff Jones and Deputy Alan Ritchie were able to get the vehicle stopped and Sowder, who was driving the vehicle, was taken into custody. A handgun was located lying on the front passenger seat of the vehicle.
Shepard says deputies then responded to the Chatsworth Lane address and on arrival found Sowder's ex-wife, 64-year-old Candice A Sowder, lying on the front porch with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Officers entered the home and located the second victim, 42-year-old Regina D. Johnson, who had also been shot in the head. Johnson was taken by helicopter to an Indianapolis Trauma Center for treatment of the gunshot wound. Her condition is not known at this time. Shepard says Johnson is the daughter of Candice Sowder ...
