LAFAYETTE ... The victim is identified as John J. Dean of Baton Rouge, Lafayette police Cpl. Paul Mouton said in a news release Monday.

Mouton said Lafayette police responded to the 600 block of Goldman Saturday at 6:30 a.m. When officers arrived they found Dean lying in the yard with a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Witnesses told police that Phillips shot Dean while the two men were arguing, Mouton said.

UPDATE: Police Investigate Shooting on Goldman Street
Lafayette, LA On July 29, 2012, the victim from Saturday's shooting died from his injuries. The victim is identified as John J. Dean (20) of Baton Rouge. Detectives have revised the charges against the suspect Carl J. Phillips to 2nd Degree Murder. Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Phillips is encouraged to call the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
Lafayette Police Seek Suspect in Morning Shooting: July 28, 2012@ 4:20 pm
Lafayette, LA On July 28, 2012, at approximately 6:30 am, Lafayette Police responded to a residence in the 600 block of Goldman regarding a shooting. When officers arrived they discovered a 20 year old male of Baton Rouge lying in the yard with a single gunshot to the chest. The victim was transported to an area hospital and is listed in critical condition. According to witnesses, the victim was at the door of the residence when a verbal argument occurred between himself and the suspect. During the argument the suspect produced a handgun and shot the victim.
