WELLSBORO ... Tioga County, Pa., Coroner Dr. James L. Wilson of Wellsboro pronounced Brian D. Elwood of 283 Bellows Road dead at the scene of the incident in Lawrence Township. Wilson said an autopsy by a Lehigh Forensics pathologist was scheduled for 8 a.m. Tuesday at Lehigh Valley Medical Center.
Wilson said on Monday that he did not know how many times Ellwood had been shot.
An on-duty Elkland police officer tried to stop Elwood on a traffic violation, but he fled east on Route 49, passing through Nelson and Farmington townships before losing control of his vehicle on Shepherd Creek Road in Lawrence Township.
Police said Elwood drove his vehicle into an Elkland Police SUV least twice. The Elkland police officer exited his vehicle and ordered Elwood out of his car, but Elwood drove toward the officer, who opened fire with his duty pistol, killing him ...
