A 29-year-old Crest Hill man remained hospitalized this morning after being shot Sunday morning by police responding to a domestic violence call on Joliet's East Side.
Joliet police responding to a 7:27 a.m. domestic disturbance on the 500 block of Second Avenue said the man was leaving through the rear door of the residence when he encountered a police officer. The man displayed a semi-automatic pistol as he re-entered the home, police said.
The man failed to respond to commands from two officers to put the weapon down and instead pointed it at an officer, according to a prepared statement released this morning by Joliet police.
Police said an officer shot the man in the abdomen. He was transported to a Joliet-area hospital, where he underwent surgery for the gunshot wound, which police termed non-life-threatening ...

JOLIET A Crest Hill man witnesses say was high on drugs and threatening suicide aimed a gun at a police officer Sunday morning, and the cop shot him in the abdomen.
Demarcus S. Johnson, 29, remained hospitalized under police guard Monday. He faces charges of armed violence, unlawful use of weapon by a felon, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful use of a weapon by a street gang member, aggravated domestic battery and two counts of aggravated assault.
At 7:27 a.m., police were called to 508 Second Ave. in response to Johnson threatening two female victims. A subsequent call alerted police that the subject had a gun.
Johnson choked one of the victims, pointed a handgun at them and threatened to kill them, police said ...
