... The series of events started at the Niagara House Motel, 6701 E. Colfax Ave., at about noon, when police answered a call about a man with a gun at the motel, which is two blocks east of Monaco Boulevard.
The person they found was wanted on arrest warrants, police said. Also, police confiscated a gun and drugs. While being taken to District 2 Police Station, he allegedly freed himself from the cuffs and attacked the officer.
An officer following in another cruiser saw the one in front beginning to swerve.
Both cars stopped in the 6300 block of East 39th Avenue, about one-half mile east of the police station. Both officers fought with the man before he was shot ...

... According to police, the coroner was still performing an autopsy on Kevin Ryberg, 22, on Wednesday. Ryberg was shot after officers say he attacked police inside a patrol car.

Man in Denver police shooting had a history of violence

In 2009 he pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment in Douglas County, after he was initially charged with felony menacing with a real or simulated weapon, court records show. He was sentenced to two years of probation and given credit for six days of time served in jail.

Parker man shot dead by police

... The Denver Police Department was called to the Niagara House Motel at 6701 E. Colfax Ave. July 31 after receiving a report that one of the guests had a gun. Officers arrested Kevin Ryberg, 22, a Ponderosa High School graduate, on a warrant, as well as on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a weapon.
Denver police say Ryberg was in the back of the patrol car at 6300 E. 39th Street en route to the station when he slipped out of his handcuffs and attacked the arresting officer. An officer who was driving behind the patrol car saw the struggle and came to the assistance of the first officer and the party was shot and pronounced dead, a statement from the Denver Police Department said.
Ryberg died around 12:10 a.m. at Denver Health Medical Center of what the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner said was multiple gunshot wounds. The coroner listed the manner of death as homicide, as is typical any time someone is killed by another person, said deputy coroner Michelle Weiss-Samaras ...
