8. Yeah it's a function of the western/Christian culture, I think.

Atheism was demonized and stigmatized for so long, it's still ingrained in our culture. "Godless" means evil. And when even non-believers continue to push the meme that an atheist must make positive claims that no gods exist, well, you can see why little changes.
