One of the reasons that last year I suggested starting a Unitarian Universalist forum at DU was to address the matter of stereotyping in matters of religion and conscience. My efforts to do that were greeted with only pushback). But I still think it's needed. This particular "religion" forum is in reality mostly anti-religion, and there is relatively little attention given here to the possibilities of an entirely "new mode" of religion that breaks the stereotypes, that occupies the middle ground between dogma and chaos...a hybrid faith grounded in both the secular and the sacred that is fully natural, openly questioning, freedom-embracing, democracy-grounded, science-friendly, and diversity-inspired. None of the present categories (not even "seekers on unique paths" express that kind of movement for freedom in religion...not just "freedom of" religion, or "freedom from" religion, but "freedom within" religion as well.
