It surely influenced him in many ways. It has always sounded like an interesting, life changing experience to me. My brother in law spent some time doing it but found it was not for him. He left because at that time he was draft age there and was going to be drafted. He was surely not the type of person who would have survived that experience.
Life experiences are always good in the long run even if they are bad in the short run so it must have made some impact on him.
Being a person who apparently does not want to talk much about himself that may explain why no one knows. Just thinking out loud because I too would love to know what he learned from it but in the long run I don't really care or think it is much to worry about.
