(2,074 posts)While there are some, like me, who like the fact that Hillary is a woman, there are a lot more people who are subconsciously react against her, judge her more harshly, etc., because of that. History, even modern history, does not exactly show being female as a huge advantage when it comes to public life.
Yes, having the Democratic establishment can be an advantage. Except in an Age of Anger, which we clearly are in. There is no doubt that at least part of Bernie's success so far has to do with the anti-establishment anger that has developed over the last several years. (Trump benefits from the right wing version of this, although of course he and Bernie have little else in common.)
The reality is that Bernie has a lot going for him. Hillary has the advantage of being a known figure and of having the establishment for her. But those can also be disadvantages, and I must say, the Bernie campaign has very successfully turned those into disadvantages for her. Bernie has the disadvantage of being a relative unknown, to be sure, but with an electorate that likes shiny and new, and in a time of anger, that can be an advantage.
I'm not saying any of this to diss your candidate (I like him just fine, although I strongly prefer Hillary, for various reasons). I just think that the picture is complex, and both candidates have things going for and against them in the primaries, just like either one would have things going for or against them in the general.
