Anecdotally my father-in-law considers himself a Republican. He's not a racist, he has a PhD, he's retired and has seen the benefits of Medicare, etc... basically he shouldn't be a republican at all other than the vague term "fiscally conservative" and having been raised conservativerepublican. His wife is liberal, daughter is liberal, etc... He is dearly hoping for Kasich currently.

He does have some slight interest in Bernie, and I think we could sway him if it was Trump vs Bernie - but he is adamant that there is no way in hell he would ever consider voting for Hillary. Even though he despises Trump, he will gladly vote for him if Hillary is the only other choice.

That said, I think Kasich is seen by a lot of Republicans like my father-in-law as the sensible choice.
