(20,176 posts)the motivation is not to convince you to switch, it's to motivate other people to join onto the cause of taking back the party from Hillary's supporters by showing what a godfuckingawful possible nominee is being foisted upon us; one that may not win the Presidency...but if she does, is likely to preside poorly and as a hedge Republican.
You're misidentifying the purpose...which is to make the Democratic tent so hostile to Clinton supporters that if she loses the GE they're all long-gone into becoming independents or unaffiliated (or simply recognizing that they're the problem so they'll sit down and fall in line in the future behind candidates that are insufficiently conservative for them) before they can foist another terrible nominee on us in 2020 or 2024 when we're trying to take back the White House for actual Democrats.
Yes, we're still trying to get Bernie the nomination...but now we're also making efforts to take the party back from the kind of weak-liver moderates that would prefer a center-right incrementalist who puts Wall Street's interests ahead of the American public's.
We are allowed to make the argument that support for candidates like Hillary is destroying the Democratic coalition and effecting the agenda of a previous moderate and only-slightly-more-sane-than-their-current-racist/sexist/cisnormative/fascist/bloodlusting Republican party.
