I remember reading one eloquent and humane quote by Bob Dole when I was taking Poli Sci 101:

"When these political action committees give money, they expect something in return other than good government. There aren't any Poor PACs, or Food Stamp PACs, or Nutrition PACs, or Medicare PACs."

Other than that, my basic sense of Dole - and I was able to vote in the '96 election - was that he was less of a clown than Newt Gingrich and the Contract with America types in the House (more or less the forerunners of the Tea Party) but not someone I thought would make an outstanding leader.
