This Cannot Be Said Often Enough ... [View all]

... passionately enough, nor forcefully enough.

Donald Trump, and the embarrassment he has caused our nation in front of the entire world, is the culmination of everything the Republican party has become: the party of bigotry, the party of destruction, and ultimately the party of the mindless.

After treating President Obama with unprecedented contempt and disrespect towards a sitting POTUS, the GOP has now gone a step further by nominating a man whose lack of character, intelligence, and moral rectitude is appallingly obvious, and whose knowledge of even the most basic responsibilities of governing a nation is virtually non-existent. In short, his nomination to the most powerful position on earth demonstrates not only the GOP’s contempt for the office itself, but for the citizens who would be subjected to the dire consequences of someone of Trump’s apparent failings holding that office.

For decades, the Republicans have fomented hatred. They have encouraged their fellow citizens to see Muslims as terrorists, immigrants as the thieves of American jobs, minorities as inferior, and the poor as conniving moochers looking for handouts they don’t deserve.

The GOP spent years laying the foundation – brick by brick, stone by stone – of distrust, divisiveness, and bigotry, and have successfully built the structure in which we now find ourselves: a house so divided, it cannot possibly stand under their rule. They have urged their constituents to be ill-at-ease, as well as being ill-informed. They have promoted the idea that education is for the elite rather than for the masses; they have preached the gospel that science is contrary to God’s word; they have praised stupidity as being the natural order.

We now see the culmination of those efforts in the candidacy of Donald Trump. He is the epitome of everything the Republican party has inspired in its adherents.

Is it any wonder that the deliberately dumbed-down see him as the saviour who will deliver them from the inherent evils of fairness, equality, justice, compassion, morality, and a sense of unity among all Americans?

Is it a surprise to anyone that a man who openly wears his bigotry as a badge of honour would be seen as a hero by those who have been encouraged by their party to embrace their own bigotry?

Is it a shock to anyone that the misogynists, the xenophobes, the homophobes, and those looking to blame their own inadequacies on others would flock to a man who literally tells them that they have a right to their anger, and shouldn’t hesitate to turn to violence in order to take back what is rightfully theirs?

Over the past few months, we have seen the fruits of the GOP’s labours. We have witnessed so-called Christian leaders hailing Trump as a model of the teachings of Christ. We have seen so-called moral leaders in the Republican party singing the praises of a man whose business morals are on par with the worst criminals who lie, cheat, and steal their way to monetary success, and whose personal morals are equivalent to those of the lowest-of-the-low, anything-for-a-buck back-alley whore.

We have seen the seeds of bigotry, hatred, and a call-to-violence not only sown, but have watched them carefully nurtured by a party that has absolutely nothing to offer but more of the same.

This is on you, Republicans. This humiliating disaster is yours, and yours alone. This idiot you have profferred as your ideal candidate is the ultimate poster boy for your party’s depraved indifference to our nation’s fate, and your complete disdain for every ideal our country stands for.

Your hypocrisy, your ignorance, your stupidity, and your desire to divide Americans one from the other have been noted – and will not be forgotten. You are everything true patriots abhor, everything that honest people want to rid themselves of, everything that real Americans want to see eliminated and ultimately destroyed.

Trump is your baby – you conceived him, you birthed him, you nurtured him. You taught him, you encouraged him, you created him in your own image.

And now you can live with him. If he leads to your destruction as a political party – which, by the way, seems probable – you can spend what days are left to you looking in the mirror, asking how and why it all went so terribly wrong.

There is no denying what you have wrought; there is no coming back from what you have unleashed. There are no excuses for your hypocrisy; there are no reasons for your behaviour acceptable to intelligent human beings.

You ARE what you are, and always have been - and now the whole world knows it, because there is no place left to hide.
