2016 Postmortem
Showing Original Post only (View all)President Obama just now in Florida - I've paraphrased the end of his speech. Please read! [View all]
"Can I talk to the press for a second? This has got to be on the level. Don't pretend that Republicans and Democrats are equally obstructionist. It's just not true! You've got some Republicans saying they're going to impeach Hillary, they don't know why, they're just going to impeach her. Imagine if you had sitting Democratic Senators saying that about Donald Drumpf - that he will be impeached. Gridlock is not something that descends on Washington like a fog. Gridlock isn't happening because both sides are corrupt. Gridlock happens when Republican senators like Marco Rubio purposefully oppose anything, just to oppose it. If you think gridlock is good then you should vote for Republicans. But if you believe that Americans can do better, then you need to vote for Democrats up and down the ticket!"
"So let me end with this - I want to make this point to young people especially - I know a lot of you are cynical about politics. A lot about this election gives you reason to be. I'm here to tell you, right now you have a chance to move history in a better direction. You have a chance to reject divisive politics, mean-spirited politics. You have a chance to elect a leader who spent her entire life trying to move this country forward. The first female president who can be an example for our sons and daughters. You have the chance to shape history, and I want young people to understand - those moments don't come that often. You know, there are times where history is moveable. Where you can make things better or worse, and it's in your hands. This incredible power that each one of you have. I know you care about a lot of issues young people. I've seen you protest, it's not enough to protest though, you have to vote. You gotta have a president and congress who believe in science and want to protect the progress we've made, and want to leave a better planet for our kids."
"I'm asking you to believe. Not just in one person's ability to change things, I'm asking you to believe in YOUR ability to change things. If you remember my slogan, it wasn't yes I can, it was YES WE CAN. I'm not on the ballot, but fairness is on the ballot, decency is on the ballot, justice is on the ballot, all the progress we've made is on the ballot, immigration reform is on the ballot, a higher minimum wage is on the ballot, equal pay for equal work is on the ballot, DEMOCRACY IS ON THE BALLOT!"
"Hillary Clinton will move us forward if you give her a chance. If we win Florida we win this election. It's in your hands so go out there and vote! Get your friends to vote, get your family to vote! Get your cousins, neighbors and coworkers to vote! Tell them that this is the moment America makes a stand about who we are and what we believe. Tell them this is the moment we reject cynicism and reject fear. Tell them to choose hope. Chose hope! Chose hope! Chose hope! Go out there and vote and if you do, we'll elect Hillary Clinton, we'll elect Patrick Murphy, we'll continue this amazing journey, we'll finish what we started, we'll show the world that the United States is the greatest nation on earth. I love you guys!! Bye bye!!"

Excellent. Another line of his I always use is: "Change doesn't happen without participation"
