Dental Insurance for Veterans

Because dental care is so expensive, I wanted to share that great dental insurance is available to veterans and their spouses and dependent children. They offer standard and high option. So many folks, especially seniors are without dental insurance. While the VA provides total coverage to 100% disabled vets, this insurance helps all other vets, whether disabled or not. You need to be enrolled in the VA health care system, but do not need to get all of your health care needs there. The choice is between Delta and Metlife. One of the biggest differences between the two that I can tell is that Delta requires a 9 month waiting period for major work and Metlife has no waiting period.

There is no deductible if you use in network dentists.
There is no waiting period for major work except orthodontia.
Standard plan has $1300 which increases to $1500 maximum
High option is $3000 which increases t $3500 maximum.

I hope this is helpful. This is one of the dental insurance plans that we have, and they have been great! We are very satisfied. For more info see www.metlife.com/vadip. Or https://www.va.gov/health-care/about-va-health-benefits/dental-care/dental-insurance/

An update to my fall last January that resulted in Injury to my right shoulder

Hi DU Friends,
Here I am almost 9 months later, and my shoulder has gotten worse, not better. I have had 4 cortisol injections and have completed one round of physical therapy. I am currently going through another round of PT in the hopes I can avoid surgery. The last few weeks have been almost unbearable however, as the pain has interfered with my sleep. It seems that nothing has been able to diminish the excruciating ache. Does anyone have any familiarity with shoulder repair? I believe there is a rotator cuff tear, but other issues as well.
I am thinking about calling the surgeon who fixed by knee in 2016. He is with Taos Orthopedic group in Taos NM. I believe they were or are the physicians for the US Olympic Ski team. If there are any cutting edge approaches to shoulder surgery, I feel certain this group would know. They accept Medicare and it would be covered. Dr. Guttman and Dr. Marvel have very high ratings and I know that they do innovative surgeries which provide for faster recovery. My ortho here in Albuquerque is a very nice man and a good surgeon, but most likely not "innovative". I think he mentioned a 4-6 week recovery from surgery. Do any of you have any experience with this? Thanks in advance for sending good thoughts my way.

A week ago on Sunday I fell in my garage on concrete.

I tripped and was unable to get up. I understand those commercials for the life alert pendant when the woman shouts "help! I've fallen and I can't get up!" Hubby and granddaughter were not home as they left to pick up our dinner. Consequently, I sat on the floor for about 40 minutes till they got home. Our wonderful neighbor is a supervisor at Fire and Rescue and he and my daughter (who was called by hubby) were able to get me up. I was trying to make my way to the door into the house, but once I was able to crawl there, I realized I could not reach the door handle to pull myself up. Thank goodness for skilled and kind neighbors! I did go to urgent care the following Tuesday ( a week ago) and the X-ray showed no broken bones or fractures. Unfortunately, it could not evaluate whether there was any soft tissue damage. I am unable to raise my right arm on my own. I have, however, learned how to wash my face and brush my teeth with my left (non dominant) arm. lol. I will see my primary doc next Monday and think he will probably order an MRI. Please send positive thoughts that I will not need surgical repair of this arm/shoulder. Thank you DU friends.

GOP Healtcare Bill

is simply awful in my opinion, and I hope it will be defeated before it gets very far. It seems to me that the main argument I have heard from Republicans in favor of this bill, is that insurance providers are leaving the marketplace in droves, because they can't afford to stay in it. To that argument I would say ...Let them leave! I have called my congressional representatives and suggested to them that they propose a bill which says that if any county in our country is left without viable insurance providers, those people should be free to buy into Medicare if adults and Medicaid if children. The insurance conglomerates then, by their own actions, would bring us closer to universal coverage.
