(11,631 posts)... but if I go directly to one of the boards I can get in.
I was able to get in by using a "back door" method. I Googled DU and then clicked on a LATEST THREADS link. Are we being hacked or just extra heavy traffic before the election?

(28,270 posts)A day before this election to save America from Trumps fascist takeover is really really really suspicious to me. Call me crazy but I remember DU going down hard when Trump666 was selected.
Hope it doesnt happen again.

(38 posts)I initially got the same "site can't provide a secure connection" message. After several attempts to connect using other means I got another message: "democraticunderground.com server forbids connection". A version of this message also appeared on several "is this site down" websites when I queried about democratic underground's status. Then everything just cleared up.

(884 posts)It probably means that the webserver for that particular domain currently has settings for SSL requiring a version of encryption that is not natively enabled in modern browser versions. Chances are it will work in IE, and there are settings you can change in Firefox and Chrome to get it working again.
But more than likely, they will change a config option in the server and reload the service and it'll be sorted out.

(37,648 posts)Look at the post by Skinner about "what you need to know for election day." I think it's in there...what to do in case DU goes down.
You can join twitter in a flash. (FB is more complicated, since you have to have an account first.) But you just sign up for twitter, and bang...you can go to DemUnderground's twitter page and read and post.

(36,422 posts)DU DOWNTIME 11/5/18 Appx 2:30 ET
Democratic Underground had a brief period of downtime from approximately 2:00 to 2:30 pm today. This was due to an error caused by our hosting company during an upgrade.
We have fixed the problem, and are now double-checking our servers to make sure everything is ok.
In case it isn't clear: The site was NOT hacked. This was a totally innocent glitch.
Thank you for your understanding.

(14,565 posts)I made a post and I'm not even sure it went through.
Then I received the error message and continued to receive it for nearly a half hour.
At least it didn't say, "All your senators are belong to us."
I guess you have to be a veteran from November 2002 or earlier to understand that reference
