How Dry Cleaning Works
America uses its police and the criminal justice system to solve social problems where there are...
better solutions through greater investments in education, mental health, housing, better public infrastructure, and other better uses of money. Instead we throw cops at every problem which only creates an institution that over time becomes more and more hostile to some of the communities that it polices. That hostility comes from the fact that they're not solving the problems most of which they cannot solve. Additionally, the job itself attracts people who want to exert power and authority over others.
Throw in systematic racism at all levels, and violent outcomes are inevitable and horrifyingly frequent.

"The U.S. economy is not in as good a shape as the latest GDP numbers suggest"
So blares the headline on marketwatch.com. My best guess is that they're trying somehow to influence the Fed to stop raising rates which pulls money out of stocks and into savings. I just find it funny that they're trying to get people to not believe the data.

I'm Mad As Hell and I'm Not Gonna Take This Anymore! (Network, 1976)
My theory on why there's this constant crying about "skills" gaps.
I'm tired of this constant complaint that US workers are not skilled enough to qualify for many open positions. I've heard this time and time again, and here's my theory as to why that's bunk. Blame it on the Professional Managerial Class ("PMC" .
Over the past 30 or 40 years, we have curated the PMC through MBA programs and consulting firms like McKinsey, Bain, Deloitte, etc. They proceed to move into the corporate world as managers, but they have no hands on, practical experience in the areas that they're managing. Thus, they cannot teach or develop incoming talent. They need incoming talent to be already highly trained, experienced and skilled, but there are fewer of these people available to hire, especially at the salary points that's being offered. Hence, the "skills" gap bullshit.
Corporations that have a strong promote from within ethic and train their employees for advancement into management don't complain about "skills" gap.
I could be wrong, and if I am, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
Why do we need a debt ceiling?
Honest question. Can someone explain why? Thanks in advance.
