Hello, as promised an update on my situation
As some of you may know I am a long term employed engineer. if not, now you do. I was old sized 1 year ago, today. I have been actively been searching for work aggressively, as some have told me. I have applied to by latest count to 1500 positions, some suggested by the good folks here, to which i have gotten 3 face to face interviews.. 2 months ago I was ready to start to live on the streets. Bank account drained, driving for Uber not really covering expenses, unemployment compensation expired, an angel stepped up to help out, to whom I am totally in debt to. Now after selling almost everything I own, selling my plasma to blood banks, applying for minimum wages jobs, doing everything I can think of to make more money. I have come to the end of the road. This place as always, since 2001, has been my refuge. I will miss it. I will continue to fight, resist the best I can but without a job or any place to live; I can't afford my one room any longer as my lease is up today. I just wanted to say thanks to the community of great people here. Please continue to support our side.
Our President made lots of promises about jobs and many good people in our country believed him. What used to be good paying jobs, engineering, design, and drafting, are all gone and unless the wages in India rise to our level they aren't coming back. So unless a miracle happens in the next 24 hours you can find me on the corner, with a sign begging for dollars. If you see me don't pity me, resist this guy with everything you have. Hopefully sometime in the future I can rejoin the fight

Fake job offers. I have received 2 fake jobs offers this morning. The scammers are using real company names and addresses. Make sure the email addresses are real. One of the ones I received this morning had return email address is careers@dongenergyuk.com. The real address is careers@dongenery.uk.co.
Make sure 1) use company website to apply 2) verify any correspondence with email/phone on company website.
Please don't give out any personal information unless you are sure the receiver is legitimate.
And to the scum bags trying scam people who are hurting from lack of employment I have one thing to say,

Trying to survive in this world, after being down sized a year ago, I have come to the end of the road. Savings are gone, driving for Uber is not making ends meet any more. My cell has been turned off, so I won't be able to drive until phone is turned back on. I am using WiFi at local library to read and post. After tonight I will be forced to live in my car. I have applied to over 1000 positions. I am a mechanical engineer with 38 years experience, I have gotten 1 interview past the phone screens. I never get a reason why my degree and experience can't land me a job, all I hear is crickets. I know my age has a lot to do with it. Companies are going to the young people recently graduated, plus in my line of work there is a lot of outsourcing to what is called High Value Engineering Centers, mostly located in India. I have applied at best buy, barnes and nobles, car dealerships and still nothing. This is America in 2017. I was hoping to work until I could collect my social security which I paid into the maximum every year. Now it seems even if I find a way to reach it it would not be there. This is America in 2017.
So after tonight I will only be able to lurk intermittently when I can use some free WiFi. I will of course continue resisting. I still have a soul and reason to live. I am down but not defeated. I will be back on my feet soon. I hope.
Thank you to all here for being my safe place in times of trouble since 2001 and my clubhouse in the good times.
