Department of Public Utilities crews pulled the massive blob from the Shockoe Retention Basin, which holds 50 million gallons of combined sewer water from Northside before it is sent to the wastewater treatment plant, on Tuesday morning.
Utilities officials urged people to be mindful of what they flush down their toilets or dump into the James because they said the collection was alarming.
"Oh my God -- that’s all I can say,” DPU Plant Operation Superintendent Barbara Jackson said. “In the 45 years I've been here, I've never seen that much come out."
The tangle was composed mostly of wipes, towels, bottles, rocks, cigarettes and fur, according to workers.

The team goes on an incredible run reaching the state high school championship.
They lost 4-2 to Waukegan High (4,250 students) with Snitker grounding out to end the game.

Producer and actor Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun that killed a woman and injured a man on the set of the movie “Rust” in New Mexico on Thursday, Santa Fe County sheriff's office said.
The film's director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, 42, was killed, and director Joel Souza, 48, was injured when Baldwin, 63, discharged a prop firearm, the sheriff's office said in a statement Thursday evening.
"There was an accident today on the New Mexico set of Rust involving the misfire of a prop gun with blanks," a spokesperson for Baldwin said in a statement. "Production has been halted for the time being. The safety of our cast and crew remains our top priority."

I’m not sure how long this has been around, but the USPS has a tool where you can see the mail route in any geographic area. Just search for an address and you can see where they go. It’s meant for businesses interested in direct mail, so it also shows average income, number of houses, and how much it’d cost to send mail on that route.
