Welcome to DU, CSStrowbridge!

Good to have you with us! This does indeed need to be an ad for 2014!!! Why are you guys sending people to Washington to do NOTHING? You sure aren't getting YOUR money's worth.

Welcome to DU, dsteve01!

Glad you're here! I love this quote! People who don't believe in government and only want to tear it all up - HAVE NO BUSINESS being in government, in the first place!!!

October 7, 2013

AHA, so they ARE admitting that THEY are the ones doing it, 'eh?

What? No "both sides-both siiiiiiiiiiiiiides"?

Keep opening that yap, you idiots!!! You're creating such a big hole that YOU YOURSELVES are being swallowed up by it.

October 7, 2013

That's an excellent point. They're just the poor schmucks who have to answer the phones.

Don't take it out on them directly. But MAKE SURE you pass along your frustration and disgust WITH THEIR BOSSES!

Also, please note the TOLL FREE Capitol Hill switchboard numbers in my sig line. If their offices are closed to the shutdown, you can probably leave a message.

AND PLEASE REMIND THEM:::::::: The Dems DID compromise. The budget numbers we're trying to vote on - are THE GOP's! The Dems tried all summer to bring the GOP to the table to talk about this and eric cantor held out - KNOWING he had to keep this card available to play. BECAUSE THIS WAS THEIR STRATEGY FROM THE BEGINNING. They can't come to us wide-eyed and batting their eyelashes at us and claiming nobody wants to work with them or have a "conversation" with them. President Obama has reached out to them nonstop, ad nauseam, since he first got there, inviting them over for cocktail parties and state dinners and screenings during Oscar season and Super Bowl viewings and NCAA Championships viewings - EVERYTHING. And they've turned him down. He's extended his hand REPEATEDLY for FIVE YEARS. And every single time they've spit in it. Or have spat in it. Or hell, have shat in it. Whatever the grammar. They keep moving the goalposts.

I find his stubbornness MOST revealing. If the numbers were going his way, do you think for one

NANOSECOND that he would not be scheduling a vote - for this very day?

His total intransigence on this suggests rather strongly that he DOESN'T have the votes, that the Dems are correct YET AGAIN, that the votes for a clean CR are INDEED there. He could make this a "teachable moment" and prove how correct his side is, IF the votes were there on his side. Just go ahead and prove it, then, since you have the proof, john. Well, he's not doing it because he can't do it. He doesn't have the proof. He'd be scheduling a vote TODAY if he had the chance to prove the Democrats wrong, that the votes were on his side the way he's insisting. When could he have a better opportunity to shame the Dems and point the finger and go Ha-Ha-Ha and prove they're out-to-lunch on this, than to have a vote and show how solid the GOP is? You think he'd pass up that opportunity? Not a chance! Unfortunately, though, he can't. They're fragmenting out from under him. Not in droves, but there are enough to get the job done. The votes are there NOW for a clean CR, and he's just trying to avoid the public humiliation.

Be still my heart!!!!

They need to get the snot beaten out of them. They need a shellacking so bad that even THEY can't spin it their way. That might work, but then again, you never know with these mean-spirited, willfully ignorant, selfish, anarchic, bullying schmucks.

I like her style!

These portraits are so compelling.

Love you, too, kenichol!

But isn't it true? THIS TOO is Homeland Security.

After all - how secure do you feel when you know that you're ONE accident or serious illness away from bankruptcy? You just got laid off or otherwise lost your job - are you going to lose your house as well? How will you stay on top of your bills? How much sleep do you get per night, on average, with all of that weighing on you? Or you have a kid or other loved one who's got a disability - how do you give him/her the best care he/she needs and deserves if you're not working? And if you are? How secure is your job in this unbelievably flaky time? And what's your employer doing to cut corners on your benefits package, assuming you have one. Not everybody does. So how secure do you feel in your own home, in your own bed at night, working hard or looking hard for work, minding your own business, playing by the rules, and you still have to deal with this gnawing pain every day? What-the-hell kind of "homeland security" is THAT?

BUT! As of now, you can realistically figure on waking up the next morning MAYBE not quite perky and bright-eyed, but perhaps you got a little more sleep the previous night than you did the night before - because you now know there'll be a way to get health care coverage. At long last. That's one worry off the table. At long last! And it wasn't a small-size worry, either!

These beasts on the other side - How DARE they try to deprive you of that? My dad used to call it "IGMFU." Stood for "I Got Mine, F-U." And the GOP sure seems to love (and want) an IGMFU world. Oh, and btw (this one kills me!), they're the ones who'll pull out the Bible quotes - usually from an epistle from some early Christian middleman telling you if you don't work you can't eat. OR the ol' Gospel-Hour favorite, the ever-faithful Book of Leviticus. And they will also insinuate that they are the greater or more legitimate followers of Christ - certainly, than YOU are. Well, the problem with these alleged Christians is they wouldn't know a Beatitude from a take-out menu from Domino's Pizza. But then again, if you're all about worshipping Supply-Side Jesus, then you need make no room for "the least of these."

Anyway, excuse me for ranting on ... and on ... sorry. These assholes just piss me off in more ways than I can count! I love the ideas on your protest signs! I'm honored to help!

Damn glad to have you here!

This place isn't just any ol' website - it's a freakin' THINK TANK!!!

I've been here since shortly after bush/cheney stole their way into the White House. I found my way here by chance, looking around online to see just how alone I was (or wasn't - did ANYBODY else out there feel as I did?) And lo and behold - I found TENS OF THOUSANDS who did! Now it's millions. But back then, it was a true oasis in a very parched desert. I didn't want to be nice. I didn't want to be polite. I wanted to call it what it was - a freakin' coup d'etat! A true HOSTAGE HOLD!!! First, I found a site called Resident Bush. The thinking of the man behind it was that you could fairly and accurately refer to dubya as a resident of the White House. So that seemed like a reasonable title for him. Then the links featured on that site led me to Buzzflash. And that, in turn, led me here to DU. I felt as though I'd finally found a home! And there I've stayed!

Even when people are jousting and bitching and yelling and cursing, it's still THE place to be, as far as I'm concerned. Hard to describe, fully, just how much I've learned here, and how much I've grown as an activist! People here don't just post opinions - they add links, and you can research stuff for yourself. You can read other people's posts and opinions, whether they're the just-folks here or Paul Krugman! We have dignitaries posting here. Will Pitt is an increasingly distinguished published author and has grown in stature and reputation since I first started reading him here. The late Elizabeth Edwards used to post here. Alan Grayson has posted here. There are people here of such incredible wisdom and clear-eyed perspective! What a talent pool there is here:

We have authors and journalists and bloggers and researchers galore here. We have teachers, students, academics, historians, and philosophers here. We have attorneys and magistrates here. We have doctors, nurses, medical specialists of many kinds, home health care workers, hospice specialists, and others along those lines here. We have aviators here. We have legislators and candidates here. We have veterans of the military here - all stripes and ranks and divisions and a whole bunch of different wars behind them. We have moms and dads here. Grandparents. Childless people and couples. Gays and straights. Blacks and Latinos. Native Americans. Europeans. South Americans. South and East Asians. Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs, atheists and agnostics, you name it. We have butchers, bakers, and candlestick makers. The multiple perspectives here - are AAAA-MAZING! We have volunteers of every kind. Animal lovers. Vegetarians and carnivores alike. People in recovery. Teenagers and retirees. Rich and poor. Loners and people in big extended families. Workers and the unemployed. Urban and suburban. Business people and entrepreneurs. Cooks. Sports enthusiasts of every kind and level of participation. Collectors. Designers. Musicians. Actors. Artists. Orators. Humorists. Photographers. Crafters. Scientists. Geologists. Anthropologists. Archaeologists. Mathematicians. Sociologists. Climatologists. Futurists. Astronomers. Astrologists, too. Just about as many different kinds and levels of expertise as there are stars in the sky OR the horoscope, for that matter! People celebrating, and people in mourning. Cyber-geniuses, techies, and Luddites! Activists, promoters, publicists, political analysts, and meme-schemers. And it's all HERE, and they all SHARE. The debating that goes on here will broaden your mind like nothing you've experienced!

I come here every day. Sometimes multiple times a day. It's addicting. Glad you're here! I hope you weigh in frequently!

Really appreciate this effort of yours, duhneece! You guys are to be applauded!

And thanked. And joined!!!

The teabaggers ARE an American version of al Qaeda.

And I'll go you one further - Having Affordable Healthcare and not having to worry about the wolf at the door every sleepless night - IS homeland security. AND national security - and whatever else you call it.

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
