A large part of me agrees!

I want to cheer and scream out loud, but it's premature of course. Hopefully we can let it all explode while watching some VERY satisfying election returns next November...

PLEASE GOD!!!!! WE want OUR country back, too!!!

Good point, and certainly it's not any main attack point. But it contributes profoundly.

It's a metaphor. If he's cheating on this, where else is he cutting corners? If he's gaming the system here, where else is he doing it? And how badly? What fast one is he trying to pull today? It's indicative. An indicator. A signal. Evidence to underscore the basic measure of the man. It's revealing of the type of individual he is, his tendencies, his defaults if you will. It's instructive and indicative of the kind of things he's likely to do and ways he's likely to respond in the future. You want someone who bends the rules because he either can't or won't or maybe doesn't feel like he has to conform to those rules? That he thinks they don't apply to him? That he can selectively apply to his own life, practice, business, representation, whatever? And HE chooses? So for the state of Kentucky, HE chooses? With THAT attitude?

I certainly don't want a "representative" like that!!!! Where he decides what's good for me and my family and my community based on what HE finds convenient? With that scofflaw attitude? Our reps whom we elect to go into government (where there are these things called "laws" and "rules" and "regulations" and fully-vetted "standards" and "guidelines&quot get into government and turn their noses up at those things, and decide they're just gonna do it their way and fuck the rest of you?

It's a small thing. So is caulking. Dumb little annoying detail. Who gives a flying F? Until your tiles start falling out of your bathroom walls because you didn't think you needed to bother with any. So is decent wiring. Big deal, just grab that old stuff over there with the cracks in the insulation and the bare copper showing. NUTHIN'S GUNNA HAPPEN... I don't wanna spend the money. Why should I have to go to the trouble of going out and buying new? This'll be good enough! Until something DOES happen, and the resulting fire that got started burns the whole frickin' house down.

Seems to me those certifications are challenging to get because they're supposed to be!

You shouldn't be able to just get your certification by filling out the back of some cereal box and mailing it in, okay? You should have to go through some stringent tests to PROVE you're qualified. What did rand paul think he was entitled to do? Just say so? And the rest of us just simply take his word for it? Well, his word isn't any good. Heck, I'd want 9,000 kinds of proof and 30-times on Sunday with a corner-cutter like him. republi-CONS are all about flouting rules, breaking rules, cutting corners, getting around stuff. 'Cause basically they're like two-year-olds: "NOBODY IS THE BOSS OF ME!!!" "NOBODY TELLS ME WHAT TO DO!" (I remember an interview with Monica Lewinsky, of all people, where she recalled her youth, her formative years, and a tantrum she threw as, literally, a two-year-old, stamping her little feet and huffing her little huff-n-puff stuff, and yelling at her mom "NOBODY IS THE BOSS OF ME!!!" Literally. Dear God that just burned into my mind when I saw that! It was just SO typical! It struck me as such a perfect encapsulation of that whole myopic mental condition and, unfortunately, worldview - of selfishness, greed, thoughtlessness, elitism, not taking anyone or anything else into account, just me, me, and more ME.)

That mentality is toxic in situations like this. That mentality sets up a condition that demands NO cooperation, NO compromise, NO willingness to make room for anybody else, NO willingness to consider another point of view. Just a whole lotta NO. It's not generous. It's not welcoming. It's not inclusive. It's not problem-solving. It's not open-minded or broad-minded. It's not anything of much benefit to the greater good of all in your community. It's a pinched, closed, shortsighted, selfish, unrealistic, narrow, sequestered, exclusionary, smug, haughty, egotistical, angry, bitter, resentful, and increasingly mean-spirited worldview that stops (indeed, that MUST stop) at the tip of your own nose. More mean-spirited all the time - as those who embrace it see the world, and the times, and the trends cycling VERY clearly AWAY from how they see things, and how they think things "ought to" be. limbaugh even wrote a book about that, I believe it was his first: titled "The Way Things OUGHT to be." And hell, you see that attitude EVERYWHERE in their camp. Last year, ann romney was almost literally the cover girl for that.

Still like it. Simple enough for a quick-hit in the debate and talking-points wars.

All we need, really, in this short-attention-span, bumper-sticker-politics world.

THIS^^^^^!!!

And yes. I'm SHOUTING!!!!!!!!!

They ARE domestic terrorists. Nothing more, nothing less. Dealing with their primary weapons of fear and disinformation. Toward their primary goal - destruction.

Welcome to DU, Joel thakkar! And much love to you, rbrnmw!

Glad you're here, Joel - and THANK YOU so much for that additional thread. Such a kind and compassionate and generous and much-needed gesture. Very loving and caring. And very Christ-like.

Dear rbrnmw - I am so sorry to hear what's happened to you. It's just not a bit fair! Yes, there are many here who remind that - this too shall pass. Well, they're correct. This too SHALL indeed pass. But we also understand that words are easy to say. And reality is awfully hard to slog through. All I can say is - your husband seems to have answered the perennial cartoon question - "are you a man or a mouse???" - to everyone's satisfaction. If he's going to leave at a time like this, when you're going through such difficulty on so many fronts, then he's actually taken out the trash for you, unbeknownst to him of course. Cliches, I know. And I'm sorry about that, too.

Just know that - as a bunch of us were pondering in another thread of condolence here, it's good that you shared this here. You need and deserve the support and affirmations and encouragement and sympathy and comfort - all those good things that hopefully will provide a little balm for your wounds. You're not alone. You're free to vent - let it out, throw it off your shoulders, get it off your back, yell and scream, and we'll listen and appreciate and sympathize. There's always someone here. And it just struck me that many, if not all, of those someones here even at odd hours have needed and availed themselves of this kind of community, in their own times of personal sadness or crisis. You're among friends here. DU will buoy you up.

Well, here's another one. This and FreedomWorks. Both having money troubles.

And I'm just cryin' a river, believe you me!

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
