Welcome to DU, Sam McGee!

Somebody here wins the internet on pretty much a daily basis!

TOTALLY.

Welcome to DU, JCannon!

ONCE AGAIN, I find myself wondering "whose side are you on, Donna Brazile?"

She's been one of my - well, let's just say NON-favorites for a long time. I have been so unimpressed with her for so damn long, ever since she "managed" the Gore campaign into nothingness and gave us eight years of bush/cheney. Now she wants to sabotage all things Hillary and DNC - so we maybe get eight years of trump/pence? And of course her new book HAS TO come out on the eve of a very important election in Virginia.

I used to tear my hair every time I saw, on CNN in particular, the usual idiotic panel of "fair and balanced" talking heads. There'd be four people. They'd have a GOP Congressperson or other elected official, a representative from some wrong-wing "think" tank like Heritage Foundation or American Enterprise Institute, and a wrong-wing blogger or talk show host - and Donna Brazile. A woman who could, and can, always be counted on to arrive on the battlefield armed with her trusty feather duster that she can always be counted on to bring to any and every gun or knife or sword fight.

She is by far the WORST, most milquetoast, most flaccid, most fucking USELESS individual to speak for, or represent, ANYTHING involving the Democrats. Her idea of debating some oppositional person is to answer "oh, okay" or "well, I see your point and..." or some spineless, meaningless, and spectacularly worthless verbal Jello about some vague principle or generalized statement of whatever-the-hell. If you ever have the misfortune to go into battle with her at your side, be sure to have your surrender papers and kneepads with you, because that's what you'll need when it's over. You want somebody with teeth on your side? Hell, she doesn't even have gums.

Welcome to DU, tenisfin!

NONE of those excuses make any sense to me. Not a single one.

There's such a detestable double standard at work here.

Ironic that the election of the first black man to the Oval Office - I THOUGHT and genuinely believed - proved that America had finally turned the damn page. And had finally grown up. And had finally gotten over that stupid damnable Neanderthal race thing. And that we finally were entering a truly "post-racial" era.

OY was I ever wrong. All that did was to rip the scab off the wound and bring racism roaring back stronger than ever.

And then, when a woman actually won a major party's nomination for the highest office in the land, I was hopeful again. That we had FINALLY turned THAT damn page. And had finally grown up. And had finally gotten over that stupid damnable Neanderthal sexism thing. And that we finally were entering a truly "post-sexism" era, and broken through that last glass ceiling of misogyny.

OY was I ever wrong. Again.

I still start getting teary-eyed when I think of the text I sent to my daughter the night before the election - how this was going to be MONUMENTAL for women all over the world - that the most powerful leader on the planet was going to be a WOMAN, and what kinds of eyes, and doors, and new eras were about to open up - for her and for all her girlfriends and female relatives and colleagues, and THEIR daughters. I was so looking forward to standing on the verge of an EPIC new era of true equality and true respect and opportunity and REAL, across-the-board equal status for women.

OY was I ever wrong. It just hurt. Worse than childbirth. And that hurt a LOT. Physically anyway. It just hurt. STILL hurts. All I can think of now is - Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, what my generation has left hers with... shards and splinters and wreckage and broken hopes and dashed dreams. Dreams of my own, frankly. Because I do not know how we lift ourselves out of this. The most magnificent, capable, brilliant, and ground-breaking two candidates in a row - Barack Obama and then Hillary Clinton. And they both got shit - by the boatload. And sadly, if it hadn't been stolen from her (because I STILL consider her the true winner last November, by some three-million votes), she would be the subject of NON-STOP PERSECUTION now, the likes of which we've NEVER seen. The list of "impeachable" "offenses" the CONS would have, pardon the pun, trumped up against her would stretch from here to Alpha Centauri.

Welcome to DU, chaking53!

I would have, but would have made clear that I do not allow Fox News in my house (especially when I'm paying for it, and for the TV, and for the house).

And truly and sincerely, I don't. I don't want it in my cable package, either. There are just certain things I won't allow, in my house.

Similarly, I told a girlfriend, when I heard her hiss "that BITCH" under her breath, about Hillary Clinton, that I will not allow that in my house. Period. NOBODY calls Hillary Clinton a bitch in my house.

I always try to be generous and accommodating. But there are some things that, for me anyway, are simply not allowed. If it's MY house, it's MY rules. You agree to that when you voluntarily step inside. Sorry to be such a hard-ass about it, but thereya go.

Not a fan of hers either.

I'll just leave it at that.

Yeah!

I remember when this erratic absolute nutcase nun who taught science classes (and whom I always suspected was cooking up chemicals in the chem lab, on which to get high) got on the case of a classmate who wanted to tiptoe around the word “Norfolk” as in Norfolk, VA”. The student read it as “Nor-folk.” The nun jumped all over her and said “NO, Cheryl! It’s ‘Nor-fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Nor-FUCK!” We all cowered behind our textbooks trying desperately not to laugh out loud! That poor student was so humiliated!

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
