calimary's JournalYeah, I think you're right. No doubt that IS part of it.
I wouldn't want to have to admit to anybody, on the record, that I had voted for the pussy grabber, especially if I had a daughter (here's lookin' at YOU, Jason Chaffetz).
So I'd make something up, too.
But when the pollster goes away or they conclude their phone call and hang up, the bathroom mirror is still there. And how they face themselves in that, I will never understand.
Justification, excuse-making, and denial - all reign supreme with some of these folks. My husband and I often parrot some of the one-liners we've heard and read from man/woman-on-the-street interviews: "I know what I know." Usually that's something that pops up when the person uttering that statement actually doesn't know SQUAT.
The slogans and poster art oughta give you some ideas.
Mine was the "NO, Donald!" sign - I found the Der Spiegel magazine cover art (trump as the killer meteor hurtling toward Earth) online and downloaded it, and had it printed, and that's what I used. But there are tons of images!
Here's a good one, for example:

(MAN, now that she's figured out how to work the updated imgur.com, there's just no dealing with her...)
Many rather ingenious fashion statements are coming out of these events!
The inspiration is really terrific!
Like this woman!
Like the leggings on those girls - one celebrating Bill Nye the Science Guy and the other celebrating Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Like those "brain caps" or whatever they're called - the ones that are hand-knit or hand-crocheted. The Nerd version of the pussy hats maybe?
Just ingenious! The signs and posters, the costumes, the t-shirts, the hand-made props (like the paper mache Einstein head and the guy in the dinosaur suit), everything! I saw one woman at the LA march who was wearing what looked like a giant blue-and-green beach ball. It was made of fabric, though, and it was a representation of the world. I didn't have my phone handy at that moment so I missed getting a photo of it. I briefly assumed that maybe I'd spot her again later in the day. No luck, doggone it. It was WAY too crowded. NO idea where she went or how far ahead in the march she might have been from where we were. But that, in and of itself, was a VERY good thing! We WANT these things to be crowded!
Welcome to DU, LibTexan49!
It's excruciating, isn't it.
I shouldn't feel this way, but I do: when I learn that someone voted for trump or supported trump or STILL supports trump, that affects how I feel about that person. That impacts my judgment of that person - his or her mentality, his or her grip on reality, his or her level of education, his or her vigilance on current events and this weird stupid annoying thing called FACTS. On his or her ability to READ. And DISCERN. And COMPREHEND.
Anybody who stands with trump - that is now the lens through which I view them.
I keep coming back to the word "deplorable".
Please somebody help me understand how this is NOT deplorable, and how THEY are not deplorable for clinging to viewpoints like this.
Welcome to DU, Steven Maurer!
Yeah, that number just drops my jaw. For whatever reason, TWO percent?
MAN...
It is true, though, that we mortals do have trouble admitting we were wrong. Nobody likes to have to do that. It's even harder to admit one has been HAD.
Maybe there's just a whole lot of denial out there?
SWEET!
Every comparison chart of the Presidents and (now two) pResidents shows trump at the very bottom. Going back to Reagan in some cases, and to Nixon in others. Heck, I even saw one that went as far back as John F. Kennedy - who polled the highest in the First-100-Days derby, if memory serves.
A few more...
