calimary's JournalIt's too bad - 'cause I LOVE the Barefoot Contessa.
Quiet, elegant, tasteful, and even the incidental music is great. She's not some "trendoid" with 192 affectations - I mean, how many chain bracelets and thumb rings can you wear? How many bleach jobs and spikes on your hair can you do - and how many times can you yell about something being "OFF the HOOK!" before it becomes really tiresome? I wrote in and complained - and suggested that, since they seemed so intent on jamming as much Guy Fieri down our throats, why didn't they just rename the whole freakin' network after him? Some of 'em in the executive suites must think he's the Second Coming or something. But he makes me feel like grabbing the remote and finding something else, or just turning it off altogether.
Welcome to DU, FiggyJay!
Glad you're here! Good to have you with us! This seems to be the thread of refuge for those of us who didn't get named in that other thread. Oh well... In one episode of the TV show "M*A*S*H", Father Mulcahy cited the lore about Irish families - "there's always room for one more!"
And it's too bad there aren't more DU Meet-ups, as well. I've never been to one, but I'd love to! When somebody would post a thread about one, and add photos, it was always cool to read through and enjoy vicariously. I personally have met ASchwarzenegger, and had several conversations with Will Pitt. And both were terrific experiences! We should all have more of those!
Welcome to DU, sunyasi!
Glad you're here! As you can see, we're a coat of many colors here at DU, and I'm not just referring to race or nationality. There are threads here of all kinds.
Me too! Love you guys!!!
So dumb! But I realized that I'm actually a little bummed out about this. Silly, isn't it? Stuff like this shouldn't bother me. But there it is.
Yeah, I know how you feel, greatauntoftriplets!
Nobody wanted to meet me either. But then again, I am kinda obnoxious...
I would want to meet you!
I remember nostamj.
We actually struck up a conversation and started emailing each other. Talking mainly about activism and stuff.
And almost as suddenly as it started, he was gone. Dammit!
And I miss Sapphire Blue. I notice her name doesn't come up as regularly as Khephra's and Andy's and others - so I try to add it in. She ALWAYS kicked my threads. Wherever she is, I hope it's loaded with beauty.
You do make a good point.
There are a few shows on Food Network I like a lot - LOVE Ina Garten's "Barefoot Contessa" and the Sandwich King, but they're not on often enough. And they do show you how to cook, especially in hers. I like "Chopped" and "Restaurant Impossible" and that "Restaurant Stakeout" guy. I LOVED the original "Iron Chef" with the utterly alluring Chairman Kaga!
But yeah, the constant competitions get tiresome. And even MORE tiresome - that Guy Fieri. ENOUGH ALREADY!!!! A little of him goes a LOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGG way. A VERY little of him. And his voice-over delivery - the singsong "dah-DAHAA, dah-DAHAA, dah-DAHAA, day-DAHAA" - utterly nauseating! I turn him off as soon as he comes on.
I like that thinking!
And also - Hey, trumad! Don't be down! Look at THIS thread! Lots of people are sending you love and affection and other good thoughts (like ice cream any time of day!)!
