About Me

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.

Or, who knows? They can even be President someday.

ALL the barriers need to come down. ALL the ceilings need to be punched through.

EVERYONE needs to be able to see a little bit of themselves in the Oval Office. We've finally made that a reality for all African American children out there, from now on. This November, it could indeed finally become a reality for all little girls, as well. Why not for gay youth, too? Why shouldn't one be able to use one's gifts to the fullest, regardless who they are? Isn't that what this country is really supposed to be all about?

DAYUM, DonRedwood! This is a story of true courage and heroism. Thank you so much for sharing it here! It's incredibly inspirational!

Wrong. She's the fiend who faked the moon landing.

AND she actually knows where Jimmy Hoffa is buried.

Plus - did you know Elvis is NOT dead? Hillary's kept him captive, tied up in her basement, and under guard - for all these years. But she did kill Michael Jackson, alright, and she also murdered Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. Totally responsible for that!

AND if that's not enough, did you hear she stole her way into Al Capone's vault and emptied out all the valuable and historical contents, before Geraldo Rivera could finish his tabloid TV special about it - just to make him look bad?

I knew it! I knew she was bad! Rotten to the core!

"...they can't believe what they're finding."

Nobody EVER interrupted his stream-of-consciousness babbling to ask him - "like what?" NOBODY ever followed up on that. "Like WHAT, Donald? WHAT are they finding?"

But in this case, it wasn't because they "all knew" he was blowing smoke. They were just lazy. Nobody wanted to interrupt the show, maybe a few of 'em couldn't believe what they were hearing. But NOBODY ever tried to pin him down. It would have been great to see. But nobody challenged him.

I'm not surprised this has come out. He's got NOTHING. He's just words. Just outrageous bombastic P.T. Barnum-style flourishing flap-drabble. That's all he's got. He's a bigger gas giant than rush limbaugh. And yet, people let him go on and on, like they're watching some episode of "The Apprentice" - and don't question him or try to pin him down.

My dad was like him (although without the big bucks). At times he'd talk about when he worked in radio, so he obviously knew all about how that industry operated first-hand (or that was the illusion he created). Well, I worked in radio, too. I was on the air. For a lot of years. Never in any sales department or upper management as I suppose he would have been, but in multiple newsrooms and production rooms and on the air. And one day, I finally decided to follow up on what, exactly, this radio career of his was. Drill down on it a little bit. "Dad, what did you do in radio? Were you on the air? Were you a GM? General Sales Manager? Regional Sales Manager? Account exec? Program Director? Jock? What was it that you did in radio?" Guess what he answered. "Well, I WORKED RADIO."

You "worked radio"? I noticed the preposition "in" was missing. He didn't say "I worked in radio" this time. Instead, it was "I worked radio." Me: "What does that mean, Dad?" "I bought commercial time! I WORKED RADIO."

AHA! Now I see. Of course. It's a little clearer now. I knew he'd never held some sort of air shift or had one of those offices "down the hall" where the sales staff or upper management staff had their offices. That wasn't who he was. He was a businessman. And he wouldn't have worked for anybody else, on somebody else's staff, anyway. But I wanted very much to cut through the salesmanship that was being sold to me. Which my dad always did. He knew how to play with words and twist meanings and massage talking points. He was a master at inference, allusion, suggestion, and insinuation. He'd say just the right things and the right wording to make YOU put two and two together and get whatever sum he wanted you to reach. Salesmanship.

That's what it was, and what it is. Just slick, fast-talking salesmanship. And I've seen and heard Donald Trump do that same rapid-fire "talk-a-good-game" schtick again and again and again. Notice how he talks. Fast and no breaks - quite often, he doesn't even stop to take a breath. The rushing stream of words and sentences and catchy phrases all running together in a big gooey puddle coming at you as though in some storm-swollen flood control channel so you're flooded. You're overwhelmed. Mowed down. Swamped. You don't have time to think, or sift, or sort. The water level's up just under your nostrils and you struggle even to get an unobstructed breath. You don't know where to start trying to pick through the crap or drill down through the muck to find the actual bottom, and it just sorta ALL washes over you and leaves the impression behind that he wants you to be covered with.

Donald Trump is all about salesmanship. He's a salesman. He's just a salesman and a huckster. P.T. Barnum risen from the grave. He'll say anything he thinks he can get you to believe. Cutting through the crap with him is actually quite easy, though. You just have to assume, from the start, that it's all hogwash. Whatever he says - and it doesn't even matter what he says. Unless he provides immediate concrete objective unimpeachable truth to back up what he says, it's all baloney. And you'll notice he NEVER DOES provide any proof. No. He'll redirect you toward that shiny object over there somewhere. He'll immediately start directing you to go look at his necktie display, or notice that table of fancy bottled "Trump Water" over there, or those incredible amazing suites in that lighthouse behind him (on the Scotland golf course he probably doesn't even own free 'n' clear but is leveraged up to the top of his ferret hair and will eventually find his way to bankruptcy declarations to weasel his way out of).

I swear - I know this guy. I grew up with that, and with him.

No kidding, my friend.

I think there will be serious ramifications to deal with, in attitudes, because of this particular election. The "he got beaten by a girl" meme will be hard to accept in some quarters. I suspect it'll be even harder to accept than "he got beaten by a black guy."

Brace for it. You think the changing reality force-fed to some communities by the fact of an honest-to-goodness African American President was an inconvenient truth? Just wait til there's a woman President. I fear this will trigger IMMENSE obstinacy, bitterness, and resentment, and probably a fair amount of acting out from the "that's not how it's SUPPOSED to be..." crowd. After all, "everybody knows" Presidents have always been white men. And isn't that the way things are "supposed to be"?

Sounds like the title of a limbaugh book. He actually wrote one entitled "The Way Things Ought To Be" back when he was first becoming a big radio star. I can't ever forget the caller I heard, while having the misfortune of having to listen to part of his show one day. The caller, whose voice sounded like he was a middle-aged white man, complained that this country started going off on the wrong track when women won the right to vote. Seriously. That attitude didn't die with the dinosaurs. There's a HUGE contingent out there that wants things back the way it's assumed things were in the 50's.

No kidding. I KNOW you're right about that.

I'm so ashamed of the shit-show put on to block everything President Obama tried to do - the utterly pig-headed obstruction - MAN what sore losers!

When Barack Obama was elected in 2008, there was that one "brief shining moment" when they showed the crowds in Chicago, weeping for joy, so completely and deliriously flabbergasted that we had actually lived to see this! We actually DID this! We WITNESSED it! We finally got over this obstacle! We've got over ourselves and that old shit. We've finally grown up! Maybe, just maybe, we've moved on from that garbage. Maybe we finally turned the page. I had such hope. MAN-oh-MAN was I wrong! I've found it shameful and embarrassing, the terrible way he's been treated and disrespected. And yes, threatened. The Secret Service did report that threats against him increased by some 400% over the rate against the previous President. Infuriating!

And yeah, we WILL see how misogynous America is, if a woman is elected. I'd say bet on it. But it's something we have to do anyway, despite the misbehavior and idiocy that it will provoke. We have to break through those last barricades. So that EVERYBODY in America can see themselves in the Oval Office. Including all of our daughters.
