About Me

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.

Welcome to DU, Man from Pickens!

Glad you're here! Scumbag - hmm... yet another in a continuing series. Scumbags of a feather seem to - uh - stick - together. Sorry to be gross, but they deserve it.

Welcome to DU, bigtonka!

Glad you're here. Let's all crowd together and make sure our shoulders are all touching, so our friend Tab has a nice broad support on which to stretch out. Maybe if we crank up some music, we can make him think he's crowd surfing!

Hey Tab, you go ahead and vent and "troll for sympathy." Lots of big shoulders here!

Seems to me you deserve it. That's yet another thing I love about DU - people here do share personal strife, issues, complications, dreads, losses, fears, cheers, expectations, and celebrations. People share so much of their personal lives and inner struggles. Our own Skittles is the one who once said "someone's always here." You need not struggle through this alone! Man, I still think about the time I posted the night my mom died. It was late. Everybody else at the house was asleep. I was up, couldn't shut my brain off. And sure enough, somebody replied. Then three more. Then a dozen more. Then the deluge! DU helped me get through that. DU has helped all of us get through bush/cheney. And it'll help you get through this, too.

And truly - if you're up late, in difficulty and discomfort from the chemo, post about it here. Someone's always awake. Don't hesitate to reach out. We'll walk through this with you as much as we can. Some here have even been through this same kind of thing, either themselves or aiding and comforting loved ones in treatment. You will get sympathy AND empathy here. As much as you need, and then some.

So great to get some photos of goodness, celebration, joy, and fun. Awfully nice for a change! A most WELCOME change! Look at that sea of people in the last photo - an ocean of people!

A baloney sandwich would be a better choice than reagan.

Hmmm... come to think of it, he WAS a baloney sandwich. Quite literally, a big fat baloney sandwich on two legs.

No. You are not allowed to leave! Enough of this leaving crap!

Dear scarletwoman, that's just MARVELOUS! A great milestone! You speak so greatly (in both common usages for the word "greatly" - frequency and degree of wonderfulness) for me in this think-piece. But you, at least, had the presence of mind to note when you were getting close to a major number like this. It totally passed me by til one day recently when it finally occurred to me to glance at my own post numbers! I bet it's something a lot of us don't do! DU is my "home on the internet," too. Other than my kid's band's Facebook page, that is!

I do too (appreciate your Shirley Chisholm signature)! She was the first person I voted for,

in the first primaries in which I was old enough to vote. My dad thought I was out of my mind. Well, even back then, I wanted a president who looked at least a little bit like ME (as in = FEMALE). Even back then I didn't have full confidence that old and middle-aged men understood the world the way I saw it. That she was a black woman made her even more interesting to me because I felt it was time that blacks had more of a voice. What if one of them could be president someday? Why not start now? And a black WOMAN - even better!!! Because - Hot Diggity Dog, would that kind of candidate EVER see the world from OUR eyes, for a change!!!! Even back then I saw the world as much more than just a bunch of middle-aged white men. I thought that meant we'd never really get a grip on our nation's many and varied problems as long as we had just only that one main mindset at work on them. We needed OTHER thinking. We still do.

And Dear gwheezie, I'm so sorry for your loss! Your beautiful tribute to your man is so touching. Reaches deep down into all our hearts - into the hearts of ANYONE who would read that. I hope his passing was painless and swift. But I also know only his body has passed from your life. His heart and his spirit are still clearly by your side.

As it goes here on DU, you do not mourn alone.

That'd be funny if it weren't true.

This proud union member says CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!
