GOOD! We all need to see and hear and be reminded of what calm compassionate leadership is.

Leadership you can believe in. And COUNT ON. And TRUST.

Calm. Compassionate. Fact-driven. Quietly courageous. Truthful. Professional and courageous enough to tell us the bad news as well as the phonied-up happy talk. OOOPS! Excuse me, I meant "aspirational." I guess that's the cool new buzzword for what trump says, that lets you off the hook from being compelled to call it lying.

The only thing you need to know about the word "aspirational" when it comes to describing trump? Its first syllable. Which is pronounced "ASS."

That actually makes it an appropriate word to use regarding trump's empty and never-ending blabber-mouthing.

O.M.G.

Whew! "Whom would Jesus lay off?" WWJLO.

Yep. That's all I got.

Really don't want to wish ill on anybody. Not even the red-staters or the trump-lovers. Not even them.

But I think just their behavior that has been well-documented and widely noticed, and described in this thread, for example, is dooming them to greater troubles. Higher numbers of confirmed cases and deaths. MUCH higher probability of all that. Because they cling to what their dear leader has assured them as he continues to lie through his teeth. They've embraced that whole "it's a hoax," "it'll go away - it's a miracle," "we have it under control" and more. Many of them are still clinging to that, I suspect.

NOBODY wants bad news. (That's what happens to OTHER people.)

And NOBODY wants to admit they were wrong... (It CAN'T be true! Our President wouldn't LIE to us, would he? He's been sent by God!)

... much less that they've been HAD. ROYALLY HAD.

I guess it's just almost impossibly hard when one's false god falls from an imaginary Olympus.

For the record - just for consistency's sake

I am using the statistics being noted at MSNBC.

We're mainly watching that network, switching back and forth with CNN. But I haven't been able to track CNN's numbers as closely. So I guess the MSNBC numbers are the "control numbers" - at least for this NON-pro, completely civilian and unofficial. But I think it probably serves the general situation. At least it gives us a picture of the rising numbers and the extent of the spread of the virus and its rising casualties.

Update:

7:37am (all times Pacific)
Confirmed cases - 165,075
Deaths - 3,038.

10:06am
Confirmed cases - 173,466 - Look at that! Cases went up by approximately EIGHT THOUSAND, in roughly three hours. .
Deaths - 3,370

10:10am (just four minutes later)
Confirmed cases - 174,251
Deaths - 3,376

SHEESH - just as I'm writing this - watching the confirmed case numbers ticking upward.
10:11am
Confirmed cases - 174,265
Deaths - 3376

What a difference a few minutes makes:
10:29am
Confirmed cases - 174,278
Deaths - 3376 - well, that's good news. The death toll nationally hasn't risen. Yet, anyway.

Jeez-Louise...

WHOA! This one's a real humdinger!

WHOA!

Michelle Goldberg!

She NAILS it and NAILS it and NAILS it.

All I can think of right now is a line from one of the Cheech & Chong movies: "Holy sheep shit!"

YIKES. Well, at least he's doing the right thing. Keeping a distance.

Hope that's where it stops in his family.

Gotta check both of these after my husband gets off the phone.

This one and the one in the OP.

That was one of our "Quote of the Week" quotes.

Our Indivisible group's "call-to-action" emails start with a quote, an inspirational opening. I'm on the team and since I'm the "quotes collector", I wind up being the writer who plugs a new quote in every week. Lately I've been getting them in verbatims off the TV coverage. I collect quotes anyway, just because. Now I can put some of 'em to use!

Nancy Pelosi and Andrew Cuomo were this week's choices.

“Our children face real national adversity for the first time.
They are hurting, they are scared, but they are learning.
And they will be better people and citizens for it.
Let’s teach them the right lessons.
Let our better angels guide us.”
Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D-NY, 3 26 20

“The markets are not going to succeed unless we take care of people...for those who say prayer over science, I say science is the answer to our prayers…
…(changing priorities) from ‘trickle-down’ at corporate headquarters to ‘bubble-up’ from the assembly-line floor.”
· Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, Speaker of the House, 3 26 20

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
