Aristus
Aristus's JournalHappy Saturday evening, Loungers. Enjoying a Corpse Reviver tonight.
On the name alone, I should have one after a day of clinic. Nice relaxing day today. Another day of rest before starting the work week again.
I threw a marischino cherry into my drink, even though the recipe doesnt call for one. I wanted one, dammit.
I love you all
Friday Night Rum Buzz. Ask me anything.
Two shots of coconut rum to get the party started.
Now, a sherry sangaree: dry sherry, Cointreau, and simple syrup. Yum!
Not a bad week. Most of you know that Ive accepted a position with my companys crosstown rival (actually just a few blocks away), so its only a matter of time.
So its a little weird that Im finally having some slow, measured, low-pressure days in clinic. No frantic rush-rush-rush to get to the next patient. No career second-thoughts, etc.
Had a very stressful, emotionally draining final patient encounter for the week, though. Im going to de-stress for a while.
I love you all
Just spoke with a new patient; Russian-born; lived in Ukraine with his mother.
He has a gloomy forecast. He's convinced that Russia will win in the end, and that Ukraine won't be able to hold out much longer.
I'm not sure I share his assessment. After all, conquering (which I don't think Russia can do by this point) is one thing; occupying is another. And there's nothing to stop the corrupt Russian billionaire oligarchs from appropriating any funds for the occupation for their own use. Any proposed long-term occupation of Ukraine will likely be just as inept and incompetent as Russia's invasion.
I just thought of something that hasn't occurred to me in years.
When I lived in the Houston area of Texas in 1982, my family attended what I now consider to have been a relatively liberal church nearby, associated with the United Methodist Church. There were no hellfire-and-brimstone sermons, they actually screened "Jesus Christ Superstar" for the youth group once (which would undoubtedly have made conservative Christians shit themselves), and of course, emblematic of the Methodist Church, the music was wonderful; not that horrid, droning, boring, soul-crushing shit they call 'worship songs'.
On Sunday nights, they would have a family gathering for dinner and music, and the choir would always put on a good show. One week, the theme was old-timey music from the 50's and 60's, and they sang, among other songs, "Rockin' Robin". You get the idea. the last song of the night was "Daddy Sang Bass".
Here's the thing: for the song, the women came out dressed up like men, and the men like women. The women would sing down low "Daddy sang bass", and the men would falsetto sing: "Mama sang tenor."
So it was a drag show. In church. And the world didn't come to an end. Everyone had a good time, enjoying each other's company, society as we know it didn't crumble to dust.
More proof, if any were needed, what a fake-ass non-issue the whole drag queen hysteria is.
For some reason, YouTube is recommending a shit-ton of "Portland: Liberal Dystopia..." videos.
I don't even click on them. I just click 'Don't Recommend Channel'.
I don't know how, based on the selection algorithm, my profile would even warrant such recommendations. Right-wing propaganda really isn't my thing. I don't even hate-watch it or watch it ironically.
I hope whoever is pushing this shit on me gives up soon.
Friday Night I Got The Job Thread. With a nice vodka buzz to go with it.
Ask me anything.
The community health clinic two blocks away hired me, and theres a lot of crossover with our current patient population. So I can continue to see my current patients without being accused of poaching.
Base salary current with what Im earning now, plus a signing bonus. Thirty-two hours of patient visits per week, with eight hours of admin time. So if all my charts are completed for the week, admin day is basically a paid day off.
This is the organization where I made my start as a Medical Assistant all those years ago. So this is like coming home. The PA who trained me is now the medical director, so Ive got friends in high places.
And its the same organization Mrs. Aristus works for as a Dental Hygienist. So were under the same roof, so to speak. (Not really. She works at a different clinic.)
Anyway, very happy tonight. Twelve years is a long time to spend in the wilderness. Its good to be coming home.
Thank you for always being there for me. I love you all
Happy Saturday evening, Loungers. Enjoying a Bourbon Buck tonight.
Bourbon and ginger ale. I added a dash of Angostura bitters, so technically, its a Presbyterian. But Bourbon Buck sounds cooler.
Had the best kind of Saturday today; doing pretty much nothing at all.
Cheers!
Friday Night Rum Buzz. Ask me anything.
Enjoying a Planters Punch tonight, on account of the hot weather.
Another hella day in clinic. Glad the weekend is here.
I love you all
Friday Night Vodka Buzz. Ask me anything.
Two shots to get the party started. Now a Cadillac Margarita. A classic Margarita with a splash of Cointreau.
Three weeks, and no word from the new clinic. I understand their HR department is a chaotic mess. But Im starting to consider other options.
I love you all
...Aaaaaaaaaand......it's 8 o'clock in the morning. Officially off call.
What a week
Party time to-NIGHT!
